There are a number of parasites which are transmitted through feces. With dogs rolling in it and walking in it, and occasionally eating it, this poses a great threat to humans but mostly for children who are usually playing in the yards, putting their hand in their mouths and eyes. Round worm and hookworm can be transmitted to children and adults who come in contact with feces. When infected, dog droppings are left on the ground the eggs of round worms linger in the soil for years. If you come in contact with the soil you will also be in contact with the eggs. If humans come in contact with hookworm larvae, the larvae may penetrate the skin. Parvo Virus is a deadly disease especially to puppies. They pick up this through their mouths. Whip worm, Giardia, and Coccidia are other parasites that can be picked up through dog feces. To prevent these, it’s best to pick up dog feces at least once a week. |
